About Our Violin Lessons

I founded Bel Canto Strings in 2011 with the mandate of providing affordable violin lessons to learners of all ages & experience levels. With group programs costing only ~$15/week and the inclusion of a free instrument rental, learning to play violin has never been so accessible!

The group programs at our music school are fun and educational, with students learning a variety of music from classics like Bach and Beethoven to movie themes, Pop radio hits, Bluegrass and Celtic fiddling.

The group setting is a wonderful way to learn to make music with others. Our ensembles perform throughout the year in the community, including free concerts at retirement homes, libraries, markets, sports games, churches, charity events, music festivals and competitions. 

There are group programs available for children beginning their musical journey, continuing students, advanced musicians, and adult learners.

I am a firm believer in life-long learning! As an energetic and enthusiastic teacher with high expectations, I believe that taking on new challenges is the best way to grow musically, and emotionally, too, and that with commitment and motivation we can all experience personal success.  Reaching our goals helps to build self-esteem and confidence. Everyone should have a special talent and an artistic creative outlet. 

Studying music is a great way to explore world cultures, history, art, math, physics, fine-motor skills, study habits, and your own emotions. Musicians learn excellent study habits, gain professional presentation and interview skills, develop social collaboration skills, and learn how to problem-solve. 

I am thrilled to be able to share my passion for music and life-long learning with others each day.  

Jennifer Spleit-Landry began studying the violin at aged 3 under the tutelage of her mother, professional violinist and strings instructor, Mrs. Ilona Spleit, and earned her Bachelor of Music in Performance in 2005 from the University of Toronto studying under Scott St. John. 

As an instructor, Jennifer has over 25 years of private and group class teaching experience and holds an Advanced Specialist teaching certificate from the Royal Conservatory of Music and a teaching position at Mohawk College’s Applied Music program. At Bel Canto, her students range in level from beginners to advanced and regularly receive high honours at examinations and competitions.

Jennifer has performed with professional symphonies, such as the National Academy Orchestra under Boris Brott, and in solo recitals, and has recorded with local bands and independent artists. She performs regularly at special events on solo violin, or as part of a string duo, trio or quartet with professional colleagues.
